Brothers and Sisters,
Today, we gather to reflect on a truth that can change how we see our lives: God is faithful, even when we cannot see His hand. Open your heart to the story of Joseph—a man who faced pits, prisons, and painful delays. Yet in the end, he declared, “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good” (Genesis 50:20).
But before we dive into that story, let me ask you a simple question: When was the last time you truly paused to thank God for what you already have? Not for what you want—but for what He has already done?
Sometimes we forget how blessed we truly are. We become so focused on what we don’t have. That we overlook everything God has already given us. We worry about the prayer still waiting for answers, and forget the countless times he has already carried us through. Take a moment to be grateful. God’s faithfulness didn’t begin today. And it won’t end tomorrow.
We plan a lot of things. But in the end, life follows the script written by God. Sometimes the detours break your heart. Only to lead you where you were meant to be.
One day you’ll understand why it had to happen. Until then. Trust the story being written for you.
A Story of Detours: Joseph
The Bible gives us one of the clearest examples of a life full of painful detours—Joseph.
He was his father’s favorite son. He had a dream from God. But then his own brothers sold him into slavery. He was taken to Egypt, far from home. He served faithfully in Potiphar’s house, only to be falsely accused and thrown into prison.
For years, Joseph must have wondered: God, where are You? I had a dream, but this doesn’t look like the dream.
But here’s the truth: God was writing a bigger story. Every detour—the pit, the prison, the years of waiting—was leading Joseph to a place where he could save entire nations from famine.
In the end, Joseph told his brothers: “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good” (Genesis 50:20).
Joseph didn’t understand the journey while he was in it. But later, he saw why it had to happen.
Trust the Story Being Written
You may be in a season that makes no sense. A door closed. A relationship ended. A plan failed. It breaks your heart.
But what if that detour is actually the path?
God doesn’t waste pain. He doesn’t waste your tears. He is weaving everything—the good, the bad, the confusing—into a story that will one day make you say, “Now I understand.”
Until then, don’t lose your gratitude. Count what you have, not just what you’re missing. Remember how He’s carried you before. He will carry you again.
A Prayer
Father, forgive me for focusing on what I don’t have. Thank You for Your faithfulness in my past. Help me trust Your plan in my present. Even when I don’t understand the detours, I know You are writing a good story. Give me a grateful heart today. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
