Finding Peace in the Pause

Brothers and sisters,

Let’s take a moment to look at how we live our daily lives. We are often in such a hurry, moving from one thing to the next, and we react to everything so quickly. When things go wrong or people upset us, we often snap back before we even think. But God offers us a better way. He wants us to find a quiet space in our hearts where we can stop, breathe, and choose peace instead of anger. Let’s talk about how to find that peace.

Have you ever felt a sudden spark of anger when someone says something that bothers you? Maybe it is a coworker, a family member, or even a comment on social media. You feel the heat rise in your chest, and you feel like you have to say something mean back right away.

In those moments, we often forget the wise words found in James 1:19: “Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.”

Why the Pause Matters

Learning to control your temper does not mean you are not allowed to have feelings. It just means you don’t have to let those feelings be in charge. When we choose to listen first, we stop trying to “win” the argument and start trying to understand the other person. This is the secret to having real peace of mind.

Learning to be patient is a journey. It is all about making a small space between what happens to you and how you choose to act. In that little space, you give God room to help you.

A Reflective Question:

Why is it so hard for us to stop and listen before we react?

The Truthful Answer:

It is hard because our pride usually wants to be “right” more than our hearts want to be kind. We try to protect our own feelings before we even think about what the other person is going through.

A Prayer for Today

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for being patient with me when I lose my temper. Please help me to listen more today, especially when I feel like getting angry. Soften my heart so that I can hear others with kindness instead of getting defensive. Please give me the patience to pause, the wisdom to speak with love, and the peace that comes from trusting You with my frustrations. In Jesus’ holy name, Amen.
