Bible Verse:
“Come,” he replied, “and you will see.” So they went to see where he was staying and spent that day with him. It was about four in the afternoon.
— John 1:39 (NIV)
Friends, have you ever wondered what it truly means to follow Jesus? Not in some lofty, academic sense—but personally, simply, honestly? Maybe you’ve felt that gentle pull on your heart, that quiet curiosity about who He really is and what He could possibly want with someone like you.
If so, you’re in good company. In fact, that’s exactly where we find two ordinary men in John chapter 1. They weren’t theologians. They weren’t saints—not yet. They were just seekers. And when Jesus turned and asked them, “What do you want?”, they didn’t have a polished answer. They just said, “Teacher… where are you staying?”
And Jesus didn’t scold them. He didn’t quiz them. He gave them an invitation:
“Come,” he said, “and you will see.”
That invitation wasn’t just for them. It echoes through time—to you, to me, to every searching heart today.
You see, following Jesus doesn’t begin with having all the answers. It begins with a simple “yes” to His “come.” It starts with curiosity, not certainty. With a desire to be near Him, not to impress Him.
Those two men took a step. They went. They saw. They spent time with Him. And by the end of that afternoon, their lives were forever changed. One of them—Andrew—was so moved that he ran to find his brother Simon Peter and told him, “We have found the Messiah!” (v. 41).
An encounter with Jesus changes everything. It turns hesitant hearts into hopeful witnesses.
Maybe today Jesus is turning to you, meeting you right where you are, and saying, “Come. Spend time with me. Let me show you who I am.” You don’t have to have your life together. You don’t need special qualifications. You just need to respond.
Reflection Questions:
– What would it look like to accept Jesus’s “come and see” invitation this week? Maybe opening a Bible, sitting in silence, or simply saying, “Jesus, I want to know you.”
– Is there someone in your life who might need to hear your own “come and see” story?
Pray…
Dear Jesus,
Thank you for not asking me to have it all together before I come to you. You simply say, “Come.” Help me to accept Your invitation today—to spend time with you, learn from you, and rest in Your presence. Give me the courage to bring others along, too. In Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.
