Anchored in Love: How to Keep Going When Things Get Tough

Brothers and Sisters,

Life isn’t always easy. Sometimes, it feels like we are caught in a storm. The waves of worry, stress, and sadness can make us feel like we are losing our footing. When everything feels heavy, it is natural to want to hide or give up. But there is a way to find your balance again.

Finding strength in love doesn’t mean your problems disappear. Instead, it means you have an anchor. Love—from God, from others, and even the love you show yourself—is what keeps you steady when the winds of life start to blow.

Here are a few simple ways to find that strength:

1. Remember You Are Not Alone

If you believe in God, remember that His love never changes, even when your life feels like it is falling apart. When you are scared, take a quiet moment to breathe. Remind yourself that you are not walking this path by yourself. Reading stories or verses about God’s care can help change your mindset from “Why is this happening?” to “I am being held through this.”

2. It Is Okay to Ask for Help

Being strong doesn’t mean you have to suffer in silence. Real strength is admitting when you are struggling. Reach out to a friend or family member you trust. When you share your burdens, you let others help carry the weight. Letting people in is a beautiful way to let them show you how much they care.

3. Help Someone Else

It might sound strange, but helping someone else is one of the fastest ways to feel better. When we are stuck in our own problems, our world feels very small and dark. By doing something kind for a neighbor, listening to a friend, or helping out, you step out of your own worry. It reminds you that you still have the power to make the world a little brighter.

4. Be Kind to Yourself

We are often much meaner to ourselves than we would ever be to a friend. If a friend was going through a hard time, you wouldn’t tell them they were “failing.” You would be gentle. Try to give that same kindness to yourself. It is okay to be tired. It is okay to be human. Give yourself permission to rest and accept help.

5. Remember Your “Why”

Think about who or what you are fighting for. Maybe it’s for your family, for your own growth, or for your faith. When you connect your struggles to a reason rooted in love, your hard work becomes part of a bigger, meaningful story. It’s not just a random obstacle; it’s part of your journey toward something better.

A Final Thought

Love isn’t the absence of pain; it is the presence of people and faith that support you. Whenever you feel weak, look for the ways you are being loved. Let that love be the fuel that keeps you moving forward, one step at a time.

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 8-38-39 niv

Prayer:

God, when life feels too heavy, Please help me to reach out and grab hold of Your love. Help me to be honest about my struggles, to be kind to myself, and to find ways to love others even when I am hurting. Remind me that I am never truly alone. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
