Brothers and Sisters,
Starting a new school year is a big deal. Whether you are stepping into kindergarten for the very first time, heading into middle school, or entering your final year of high school, it is a brand-new adventure. Maybe you’re feeling excited, a little nervous, or even a bit sad that summer is over. That’s totally okay! God cares about every single feeling you have, and He wants to walk with you through this journey, no matter what grade you are in.
God is With You in Every Grade
It doesn’t matter if you are learning your ABCs or preparing for college applications; God is there. He isn’t just in the big moments—He is in the quiet moments of your day.
Let’s read what the Bible says about starting something new:
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” — Joshua 1:9
Did you catch that? God says He will be with you wherever you go. That means in your classroom, on the bus, at lunch, at recess, and even during that tough math test or big project. You are never alone.
The Team God Placed Around You
God didn’t just leave you to figure it all out by yourself. He has placed amazing people in your school to help you. Your teachers, counselors, and coaches are there to provide support and guidance. They aren’t just there to teach lessons; they are there to help you discover the unique skills and talents God has already put inside of you.
When you feel stuck, remember that these adults are like God’s helpers, cheering you on. They want to help you use your gifts to grow, learn, and succeed.
A Little Prayer for You
Dear God, thank You for this new school year. Please help me be brave when I feel scared, kind when I meet new people, and focused when I need to learn. Whether I am in a new grade or just moving up, remind me that You are always with me. Help me to listen to my teachers, counselors, and coaches, and give me the confidence to use the skills You gave me to grow. Amen.
A Prayer for Your Teachers, Counselors, and Coaches
Dear God, please watch over my teachers, counselors, and coaches. Give them patience, wisdom, and energy every day. Help them see the potential in me and all my classmates. Show them how to guide us and encourage us as we learn. Please bless them and their families, because they work so hard to help us become who You created us to be. Amen.
Your Turn This Week: Tips for Student Success
* Take a Deep Breath: When you feel nervous about your new grade, whisper, “God is with me.”
* Be a Helper: Look for one kid who looks lonely and say hello. That’s God’s love in action!
* Show Gratitude: Say “thank you” to your teacher, counselor, or coach—it will make their day.
* Ask for Guidance: Before you start your homework or a difficult task, ask God to help you understand and use your talents.
Remember, back to school isn’t just about books, pencils, and grades. It’s a chance to see God’s goodness in new ways—in your own heart and in the people He’s placed around you. You have everything you need for this year because God is with you every step of the way.
If this devotional blessed you, share it with another parent, teacher, or student. Let’s pray for our kids and the adults who guide them as they start this new chapter together!
