Choosing What Matters

Dear friends,

Think about how much time and energy you have each day. It is a gift from God. Often, we feel like we have to say yes to everything, answer every person, and fix every problem. But God gives us the wisdom to know that we cannot do it all. We are called to be careful with our hearts and our strength.

One of the best things you can learn is knowing what is worth your time. You don’t have to answer every opinion. You don’t have to say yes to every invite. You don’t have to fight every battle. Guard your energy, because it truly shapes the kind of life you live.

When you stop spending your time on things that just make you tired or unhappy, you make room for what really matters. Saying “no” to the wrong things is just as important as saying “yes” to the right things. By picking what you focus on, you are choosing to live a better, more peaceful life.

Start small. Watch where your mind goes during the day. Ask yourself: “Does this help me, or does it take away my peace?” You cannot control everything that happens to you, but you have the power to decide what you will carry in your heart.

This is all about finding freedom. When you stop trying to please everyone or fix everything, you find a quiet strength. You learn that sometimes, silence is a good answer, and it is okay to set boundaries to protect your peace.

This isn’t about being lazy; it is about being purposeful. Think of your mind like a garden. You have to pull the weeds—the unnecessary stress and arguments—so that the good things can grow.

Living this way takes practice. It is a daily choice to honor your limits. When you choose where your energy goes, you move from feeling worn out to living with purpose. You are building a life that honors your true values.

Before you begin this day, take a moment to pray: Lord, help me see my time and energy through Your eyes. Give me the wisdom to discern what to hold and what to release. Grant me the courage to protect my peace so that I may be a reflection of Your love to others. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.

To help you put these thoughts into practice, consider these questions and applications:

*   Identify the weeds: What is one “weed” currently growing in your garden—a distraction, a recurring argument, or a draining obligation—that you need to pull so that your peace can grow?

*   Make space: What is one thing that truly aligns with your values, but you have been too busy to nurture? How can you make space for it today?

*   The “Pause” practice: Before you answer a request or enter a difficult conversation, take a moment to breathe and ask, “Does this help me, or does it take away my peace?” Give yourself permission to pause before you respond. Remember, a thoughtful silence is often more powerful than a rushed “yes.”

Remember, this is a journey, not a race. Give yourself the same grace that God gives you as you learn to walk in this new freedom.

As it says in Proverbs 4:23: “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”

May you find the strength to guard your heart today, so that you can walk in the peace and purpose God has for you. Amen.
