“Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that the sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. This person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither- whatever they do prospers — Psalm 1:1–3 (NIV)“
Be like a tree. It’s a simple image Jesus and the psalmists use to teach us how to live: rooted, patient, fruitful, and steady through seasons. A tree does not panic when the sky changes. It trusts the unseen work of roots, the slow rise of sap, the timing of sun and rain. So can we.
Rooted faith
A tree’s strength is underground, where we cannot see it. Likewise, our quiet practices — prayer, Scripture, honest confession, small acts of love — are the roots that hold us when storms come. Rooted faith does not promise a life without trouble; it promises a steady source, a life connected to God’s sustaining care.
Patient growth
Trees grow in their own time. We often compare our start to someone else’s fruit. Yet God invites patient growth. Allow small, faithful steps today — a forgiving word, a daily Bible line, a humble act of service — to accumulate into a mature life. God measures growth by faithfulness, not speed.
Fruit in season
A healthy tree bears fruit when the season is right. So will you. Don’t despair if your gifts seem dormant. Keep tending what God has given you. In time, your life will produce kindness, wisdom, perseverance, and hope — fruit that blesses others and honors God.
Steadiness in storms
Storms will come — loss, doubt, change. Trees bend and sometimes lose branches, yet many stand through the years because their roots run deep. When winds batter you, return to prayer, Scripture, and the people God has given you. Let those things strengthen the hidden life that sustains visible hope.
Prayer
Lord, help me be like a tree: rooted in You, patient in growth, faithful to bear fruit, and steady in storms. Teach me to trust your timing and to rely on your living water each day. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
