Dear Friends,
Let’s take a moment to be real with each other. We all feel that tug-of-war in our hearts, don’t we? We live in a world that is incredibly loud—it shouts at us about how to be “successful,” how to look, and how to get ahead. It can be exhausting just trying to keep up. But today, I want us to pause and listen for a quieter, deeper voice. Jesus is calling us to a completely different way of living. It might seem strange or even “upside-down” compared to what we see on our screens every day, but it is the only path that leads to true, lasting peace.
Let’s bring this into our quiet time together and really look at what this means for our daily lives.
The world tells us that success is all about what we can grab for ourselves: our bank accounts, our status, and how many people know our names. If we are not climbing that ladder, the world tells us we are failing. But when we look at the life of Jesus, we see something entirely different.
He didn’t build a brand; He built a movement based on love and sacrifice. He taught us that to truly find our life, we have to be willing to let go of our own selfish plans. As Jesus said in Matthew 16:24-25: “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me. If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it.”
Jesus showed us that the greatest person isn’t the one with the most power, but the one who helps the most people. In God’s kingdom, the ladder isn’t about climbing up—it’s about going down to help others stand up.
I know this is hard. It’s tough to be humble when everyone else is bragging. It’s hard to forgive when you want to get even. It’s hard to be happy with what you have when you are constantly being told you need “just one more thing” to be truly happy.
To help us visualize this shift in perspective, consider these differences:
The World’s Way Jesus’ Way
Seek status and recognition. Practice humility
Retaliate when wronged. Forgive and show grace.
Promote yourself to get ahead. Encourage others
Happiness in consumption. fulfillment in contentment.
But this is where we grow. It happens in the space between what the world demands and what we know in our hearts is true. Jesus isn’t offering us a life of ease; He is offering us a life of substance. He invites us into a kingdom where the poor are blessed, the gentle will be rewarded, and the hurting are the ones He uses most.
So, how do we do this? Start by simply noticing the difference. Next time you feel the pressure to “be someone” or “get ahead,” stop and ask: Is this what the world wants, or what God wants?
You don’t have to be perfect to walk this path. You just have to be willing to listen to the One who measures your life by what is in your heart, not by what is in your hands.
Reflection for today:
Where in your life do you feel the most pressure to be “successful” like the world says? Take a moment today to give that struggle to God, and ask Him for the courage to follow His way instead of the world’s way.
As you step into the rest of your week, remember that you are not walking this path alone. Choosing God’s way is a daily surrender, a quiet act of trust that ripples out into everything you do. When the world tries to pull you back into its frantic race, breathe, remember His grace, and choose the narrow path. It may be the road less traveled, but it is the only one that leads home.
