In our search for peace and purpose, we often look everywhere before we finally look up.
Dear friends,
It’s a simple question I want to explore with you today, one that reaches right into the heart of our faith: Do you fear God?
I don’t mean a scared, hiding-in-the-corner kind of fear. I’m talking about a deep, reverent awe. The kind of fear that holds Him in the highest esteem, that honors Him, obeys Him, and yields to His will. It’s a fear that leads us to surrender to Him, to follow Him wholeheartedly, to worship and adore Him.
So, let’s be honest for a moment. Who is God to you? Is He the one you truly fear and revere? Or is He someone you mostly just talk about? A name you mention in prayers, especially in case of an emergency? Is he someone you think about once in a while, or pray to only when you’re in trouble, afraid, or don’t know what to do next?
Perhaps you’ve wondered this too. I know I have. The Bible calls us to something more profound, more personal. It calls us to a relationship built on awe and respect for the living God. This holy fear isn’t about being frightened; it’s about recognizing who He is—the Almighty Creator—and in response, understanding who we are. It’s the starting point of a truly meaningful and hopeful life with Him.
This isn’t meant to condemn, but to gently remind us of the foundation of everything. When we see God for who He truly is, everything else falls into its proper place. Our worries, our emergencies, our uncertainties—they are all held securely in the hands of the God we are learning to fear, trust, and love more each day.
There is so much hope and wisdom found in taking this first step.
“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.”
— Proverbs 9:10 (NIV)
This week, I invite you to simply sit with that question: “Who is God to me?” Let the answer guide you closer to Him.
